Career Aspirations

Kasey has already made it very clear that she won't be a midwife like me ("I don't want to see all that yucky stuff").

She asked me today what she should be when she grows up. I told her it's up to her. But she should try to so something that she loves. She asked me very seriously, "Do they have a university for pop stars?" lol

Lotto

Irene, Billy and I were discussing winning Lotto, and our plans to buy two adjoining waterfront apartments. Kasey let us know, in no uncertain terms, that she wouldn't be moving from Duffield Rd. She said, "Macca's and the club are just around the corner, and my BFF is just across the road". Shows what is important to a seven-year old - not a fancy house, but the Happy Meal she has every Friday after dancing, socialising with the same group of kids each week at Trivia night at the RSL club, and living close to her best friend, Shanae. She did say, however, that if we won Lotto it would be okay to put a pool in the backyard.

Studying at Redcliffe

Mark is out of work again, and we both agree on giving up on him getting a job in the building industry, he's had such bad luck with jobs in the last two years. Applying for hundreds of jobs is very demoralising, and we've both had enough. Especially when you finally get a job, and it only lasts a few months. So were going to try managing on one wage, while Mark works on ?building a soccer coaching business ?continuing with his Bachelor of Marketing, or switching to a more practical course like IT through TAFE.

He already has a part-time job as  Director of Coaching at The Gap Soccer Club. And in case we need more income, he's taking on Laura's suggestion of doing a security officer certificate and hopefully getting some work at the business she manages in Mackay. Here he is studying at Redcliffe Coffee Club.
Here I am clutching at the course folder to prove that I helped him wade through OHS responsibilities and various state legislation particularly pertaining to the role of the security officer. Thrilling stuff.

I was telling Kylie, one of the mums at school, about him doing security, and she said she thought it might be a dangerous job. I said she needn't worry, with Laura there to protect him - I proceeded to tell her the story of family legend, where Laura the size 8 five foot blonde beat up the guy who stole her car (which I learnt today was common assault on her part, but under provocation due to the guy committing the crime of stealing, all coming under the Queensland Criminal Code Act 1899). Phew.

Sarah's 8th Birthday Party, July 2012

Kasey was invited to Sarah's party, and the invitation read, "..dress as your favourite character." Thankfully Kasey already had a Snow White costume.
Naturally the costume wasn't realistic enough for Kasey, unless she had black hair.
One can of black hairspray later, and Kasey had a head any 19th century child labour chimney sweep would have been proud of.

Armed and dangerous, it's the Bubble Gun swat team.

Sarah was Rapunzel (hair extensions, but no hair dye required).

P.S. Thanks to Irene for washing out Kasey's black hair

Skating August 2012

We took Kasey and Shanae rollerskating at Sk8mania (North Lakes). They're both pretty good on the skates, although Kasey had one fall and hurt her elbow.

They'd just bought a slushie drink each, when Kasey won another one in a game of Limbo, so they had to drink three at once, of course. Kasey gets her limbo skills from Mark, who apparently still holds the record of Tangalooma Resort Limbo champion from 1987.

Drinking that sucker dry.
